Head of the Chair of Theology

He was born on January 31, 1973, at the town of Solnechnogorsk near Moscow to the family of engineers. In 1997, he married; he has a daughter born in 1998.

In 2000, he graduated from the St John the Theologian Russian Orthodox University as a major in theology and religious studies. In 2005, he finished the post-graduate school of the Russian Academy of Science’s Institute of Philosophy as a specialist in the History of Philosophy and defended the Candidate of Philosophy’s degree with the thesis on the Christian Platonism of Marius Victorinus. Since May 2005, he has worked at the Philosophy of Religion section of the RAS Institute of Philosophy as a senior researcher. From 2000-2009, he taught Patrology and Dogmatic Theology at the St John the Theologian Russian Orthodox University, the Biblical-Theological Institute, Moscow State Linguistic University and the State University of Humanitarian Arts. At present, he is asociate professor at the Chair of Patrology of the St Tikhon Orthodox Theological Humanitarian University, reading a course on Patrology. He is editor-in-chief of the Russian Orthodox Church’s youth department center of biblical and patristic studies and a member of the ROC Synodal Biblical-Theological Commission.


Academic interests

Patrology, early Christian and medieval philosophy, dogmatic theology, and philosophic theology.

Special interest – the 2nd-8th century Latin patristics.


Major academic works and publications

A monograph Latin Patrology, v. I, First Period. Pre-Nicean Latin Patrology (150-325), Moscow 2005. Christian Platonism of Marius Victorinus, Moscow 2007. Jerome of Stridon: A Biblical Scholar, Exegesist, Theologian, Moscow 2010, and over 80 publications on various issues of early Christian and medieval thought including translations of patristic works. Author of over 40 entries in the Orthodox Encyclopedia.
